Sam's Story
In this tribute, we celebrate Sam, a very special person defined by energy and generosity. From Gibraltar to global adventures, Sam embraced challenges in sports, cycling, and triathlon. His representation of Gibraltar at the Commonwealth Games showcases his dedication and talent. As we remember Sam, we honour his lasting impact on those who knew him.
Sam's life was defined by energy, generosity, and a deep love of sport. From an early age, he threw himself into football, cycling, and triathlon with enthusiasm and determination. Born in Gibraltar into a military family, Sam had the opportunity to live in and experience many parts of the world, including Italy, Abu Dhabi, and Thailand. While in Thailand, he earned a sports scholarship to study at the International School in Thanyapura. In 2017, he moved to Leeds to study at Leeds Beckett University, where he built a life, a community, and a lasting impact on those around him before his tragic death in September 2025.
Sam proudly represented Gibraltar in both triathlon and cycling at the Island Games, and he went on to compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he finished 30th in the cycling time trial. Sam's sister Holly also competed at the games for weightlifting, which made it extra special for them both. His sporting achievements reflected not only his talent, but also his discipline, resilience, and commitment. Alongside his training and competition, Sam developed a remarkable passion for bike mechanics, teaching himself every aspect of the craft, from building bikes to refining every detail in pursuit of performance.
In 2022, Sam founded his business, Amicy Performance, and quickly became a trusted mechanic for cyclists and triathletes across Leeds and beyond. He was known not only for his skill, but for his willingness to help anyone who needed support, often going above and beyond to make sure people could keep training and competing without disruption. While he worked on all types of bikes, Sam was especially passionate about supporting elite athletes and finding every possible way to help them perform at their best. His care, precision, and relentless drive for improvement made a lasting difference to so many people. His girlfriend Lucy knew his pursuit of perfection better than most, having been lucky enough to experience his dedication first hand as her personal mechanic.

Beyond his work as a mechanic, Sam gave his time generously to support others through coaching, helping at races, and simply showing up for people when they needed encouragement or company in training. He travelled widely, supporting athletes and working as a mechanic for Nirvana at Ironman events around the world. Wherever he went, Sam brought commitment, kindness, and a genuine desire to help others succeed.
This charity has been created to honour Sam's life and continue the values he lived every day: generosity, dedication, and support for others. Through this work, we hope to carry forward his legacy by helping athletes pursue their goals, overcome barriers, and feel the same encouragement and belief that Sam so freely gave to those around him.
